Blog #7- A Midsummer Night's Dream, Act V (part 2)
Act V (Part
2)
If one of the plot features of comedy is that
love triumphs and happiness reigns in the end; explain how the ending of A Midsummer Night’s Dream fits into this
comic pattern.

Lysander and Hermia's love for each other lasted through Egeus trying to wed Hermia and Demetrius and through Lysander falling under the spell and falling in love with Helena. In the end, they are very happy together. Demetrius, Helena, Hermia, and Lysander all make it out of the woods happy and in love, about to be wed alongside Theseus and Hippolyta. (1M. Reyome)
ReplyDeleteI agree that through all of the downfalls, love still came out and fell into the comic pattern. (E.Adkins 6th)
DeleteThe ending of this play fits perfectly into comedy as in the end, Hermia and Lysander are still hopelessly in love with each other and Helena finally gets Demetrius to herself. Everyone will end up happy and getting married to the person they love. All the problems of love resolve themselves as now Hermia's dad, Egeus, is happy with her decision and Theseus gives his blesing on both couples and their soon to be marriages. K. Stanley 5th
ReplyDeleteI also believe that the play becomes comical due to the play. The actors, who aren't really actors, make silly mistakes to be laughed at, the 3 grooms make funny remarks about the play, and the overall attitude at the end is cheerful and humorous. This is also because we (the audience) can reflect on the previous actions in the woods and can laugh at them because they're all over. (T. Johnson 7th).
DeleteA Midsummer Night’s Dream fits into the comic pattern that love triumphs and happiness reigns in the end because in the end of this story, everyone gets their true love and lives happily ever after with them.

I agree with your statement; however, you could've added more evidence to support your claim. Evidence such as Lysander and Helena's forbidden love or Demetrius and Hermia's unexpected relationship would have helped further explain your reasoning.
DeleteI somewhat agree with Meredith. Yes I agree that they love triumphs all but i do not feel like they all found happiness. I feel like the book left some loose ends so you do not know of their fate. (6j.Shillow)
DeleteA Midsummer Night's Dream fits into a comic pattern because at the end of the play, all of the lovers end up with the people they want to love. Hermia and Lysander end up being together after all of the troubles they went through. Demetrius and Helena end up together after Helena's endless pining after him. Even Oberon and Titania end up back together after all of their fighting and disagreements. (H. Bryant 6th)
ReplyDeleteAt the end of A Midsummer Night's dream Puck stood in front of the crowd and explained that the play was nothing more than a play and was not meant to be offensive. He explains that the play was made from pure imagination and to think of it as a dream. I think he said this because dreams are part of our imagination, even though it may seem real at times. I think this is an example of love triumphs and happiness reigns because the whole play was about the love triangle and the obstacles they had to face, but at the end of the book it all worked out and they found love. ReplyDeleteAt the end of this play, even though the characters began with a love triangle, a broken heart, and a mischievous fairy, everyone ended up one way or another with someone they loved and were able to get married. At the beginning, Lysander and Hermia were forbidden, Demetrius loved Hermia, and Helena was a heart-broken girl who could only watch her true love be in love with her best friend. Through a series of seemingly fortunate events, including a sneaky fairy, a play rehearsal in the woods, and a love potion "mix-up", Helena and Demetrius along with Hermia and Lysander were able to get married, the play was presented to the king on his wedding day, and everyone lived happily ever after.

At the end of Midsummer Night's Dream, the lovers ended up with the ones they wanted to, which made this play fit into a comic pattern. The play was all supposed to be a dream and part of the characters' imagination. Puck had to explain it to the audience. There were many disagreements throughout the play which caused a plethora of obstacles. It was a happy ending for the characters but also the audience. (B. Holland 7th)
ReplyDeleteThe ending fits into the comic pattern with the lovers all ending up happy. Even though Egeus trying to force Helena and Demetrius to marry and the flower juice affecting Demetrius and Lysander, the pairs end up in love and ready to get married. They got Theseus blessing and Egeus is happy with the decisions of his daughters. (E. Adkins 6th)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. (M. McAlister 5th)
DeleteThe ending fits into the comic pattern because in the end everyone ends up with who they're happy with and who they love. It turned out that the play was all part of the character's imagination. The story shows how temporary heartbreak can actually turn into a forever loving relationship. I think part of the comical pattern was also trying to keep up with who loved who which was rather confusing for the readers. (M. McAlister 5th. )
